The journey begins by departing London to the west and travelling through the countryside of the North Wessex Downs, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. We’ll continue our journey and head straight for Bath; one of the most beautiful cities in Britain.
Although Bridgerton is set in early 19th century London, much of the show was actually filmed in Bath. The city was chosen in part due to its attractive and historic Regency architecture, much of which was built in the era in which Bridgerton is set. We’ll have plenty of time to explore Bath, and all of the Bridgerton filming locations. You are welcome to join us on a walking-tour of the city, or you can explore independently. A stroll around the city centre of Bath with take in many of the famous filming locations from the show. One of the most recognisable sites in the city is the stunning Royal Crescent, and no.1 was used as the Featherington’s House. Just around the corner from here are the Bath Assembly Rooms, where many of the ballroom scenes were filmed. In the heart of the city are Bath Street, Trim Street and Beauford Street, all of which were used to capture the charm of the 18th century. Another iconic building in Bath is The Holburne Museum, which is instantly recognisable as Lady Danbury’s residence. During our exploration of Bath, we will take in all of these locations and more, plus have time for some lunch.
This afternoon we’ll head away from Bath and into the countryside of Somerset and Wiltshire, as we travel towards our next destination: Wilton House. This is the home of the Earl & Countess of Pembroke, but in Bridgerton this was primarily the Duke of Hastings’ House. The estate has a history dating back to the 9th century and was granted to Sir William Herbert in 1544 by King Henry VIII, with much of the house re-built in the mid-1600’s. Wilton House is a key location in Bridgerton, not just featuring as the home of the Duke of Hastings, but in a variety of other scenes. Here we will have ample time to see this beautiful house and its grounds.
We’ll depart towards the end of the afternoon, returning to London and the Mercure Kensington Hotel by 6.00pm.
